The Birzeit University Museum produced this edition as part of the exhibition Framed – Unframed tour in Palestinian universities in 2012. As a tool for dialogue and change, the exhibition aims to present contemporary art practice to university communities in particular, and the local Palestinian community at large.
The 2nd edition of Framed – Unframed presents a number of artworks showing various representations of women’s bodies. The works are productions by female and male artists and have been completed over the period spanning from the 1970s up until now. They carry several ideas about female representation and women’s visual presence in the Palestinian art scene.
The featured works are quite diverse, changing according to the social, political and gender environment surrounding their conception, as well as the artist’s personal experience and his/her relationship to contemporary artistic practice. This exhibition is produced in cooperation with the Faculty of Fine Arts at An-Najah National University, and with the support of the Institute of Women’s Studies in Birzeit University.
