Introduction to Research: From the Art Collection

August 1, 2015 to August 31, 2015 - 12:30 to 16:30

This is not an exhibition, it is a presentation of a selection of works taken from the art collection preserved at Birzeit University Museum. The collection is made available for spectators to observe and use as a valuable source of knowledge for scholarly research and art projects on history, memory and identity, in addition, to its role in the construction of narratives. The richness, diversity and versatility of the artworks in the collection are fascinating, and are triggers for different avenues of research. Such research will offer the opportunity to unravel stories and memories that depict the relation between the art collection in Birzeit University and culture in Palestine.
Through showcasing this collection, the Museum seeks to herald an alternative approach towards tackling cultural material in general, and collections in particular.  It opens onto the collection for creative researchers who envision the collection as a resource for knowledge and inspiration beyond nostalgia and romantic rhetoric.
The Museum’s gallery space is thus turned into a research laboratory where the audience, students and researchers can examine, and express their thoughts on the selections of artworks and resource material. We welcome all contributions to the project whether they come in the form of ideas, impressions or add knowledge.
